They can hear what quiet sounds like.
Kids are so overstimulated these days. From their jam-packed schedules to their obnoxious toys to their tablets and smart phones, kids aren’t learning how to relax and experience true silence. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to venture out and explore nature where the only sounds they hear are the sounds of the birds chirping and the leaves crunching beneath their feet.
They can get in touch with nature.
When camping, kids are able to really immerse themselves in nature. They are able to explore the world around them in a way that they wouldn’t be able to if they were at home. Camping provides an escape into a part of the world that they might not have been able to experience before. I think there is something to be said about showing kids the beauty and wonder of nature. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful places to go and explore in our country and it would be a disservice to our kids to not show them a little bit of it!
It helps them build resilience & self confidence.
Kids these days are rarely pushed out of their comfort zone. From the time they wake up to the time they go to bed, their days (for the most part) are pre-planned and closely monitored. When put into a new environment and by taking away a schedule, they are able to figure things out on their own. By giving a child the ability do things on their own and solve problems that they wouldn’t normally be forced to deal with, we are helping them to not only gain self confidence, but resilience. When faced with unforeseen issues (forgotten supplies, bad weather, etc.), they are able to learn new ways to overcome adversity and build their confidence.
They’ll develop a greater sense of exploration & improve imagination.
When given the chance to explore, children are able to use their imaginations and boost their creativity. Without the influence of tablets and smart phones, kids have dirt to play in and trees to climb. I feel like more and more kids are becoming incredibly dependent on technology, and while some technology can be beneficial, I think kids can really benefit more from their own imagination and exploration. We love the KOA Campsites because they are family-oriented and we feel that our kids are safe to explore. With the freedom to explore in a more natural environment, they are put in a position to really rely on their imagination to play and entertain themselves.
Enjoy quality time together.
Even though we’ve been stuck in a house together for what feels like forever, I still feel like there has been a loss in actual quality time we spend with each other. Camping is an ideal way to disconnect from the chaos of the world and reconnect with each other. My absolute favorite part of camping is sitting back and watching the kids. Watching them explore their new environment, running around, laughing, playing with each other, and using their imaginations to entertain each other are memories that I will cherish forever. Watching them learn and explore on their own terms is incredible and what they do might just surprise you! My only regret after camping with the kids is that I wish I had taken more pictures! I hope you’re able to take some time to escape the chaos of the world right now and explore camping with your little ones!
