I’ve always been a big reader. I love to cozy up with a good book and just get lost in the story. I think I can attribute my love of reading to my Grandma. She always has a new book on her table and has always encouraged me to explore all sorts of genres and stories. After having the kids, I noticed how little time I actually had to myself for any sort of hobby or me-time. As I got deeper into the trenches of motherhood, I found myself longing for some sort of “sense of self” again; just some small way to not completely lose the person I was pre-kids. I decided earlier this year that I was going to start to prioritize some me time and force myself to take some time alone every day, so one night I decided to pick up one of the books I’ve had sitting on my nightstand and start reading before bed while AJ was deep into an episode of Guy’s Grocery Games.
After finishing the book (it happened to be The Montessori Toddler, highly recommend for any parent of a toddler), I decided to challenge myself to read a book a month through the end of summer… or at least until this baby arrives! Between chasing the dogs, cleaning up after the kids, attempting to keep up with the house, and everything else going on in our lives, I figured that if I could just get 10 minutes of alone time every night before bed to read a chapter or two, I’d be doing pretty good.
I have such a random assortment of books piled up so there’s really no rhyme or reason to what I’m reading at the moment. I’m just planning on going through the stack in the order that they are already there! Fortunately, I had gotten all these books from Amazon so I’ve linked them below in case you guys are looking for some Summer reading. If you’ve read any of them already, let me know what you thought in the comments below!
Books of the Summer
I love a good drama and based on the reviews, this one doesn’t seem to disappoint! Just by reading the intro, I’m already drawn in and can’t wait to start reading!
I fell in love with Shea McGee’s instagram account a few years ago so when I saw they were coming out with their own memoir I knew I had to have it. I have always been interested in design and decor so I am beyond excited to get into their story!
I had seen this book on a recommendation list last year and after reading a little bit about it, I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down. In the few paragraphs I’ve read about it have me absolutely fascinated by Ruth Wariner’s story and I can’t wait to read more.
If you follow them on social media you know Kristin and Jen are absolutely hysterical. They are the virtual mom friends you never knew you needed! I’m so excited to jump into their book about family, friendship, and just being a mom.
I had actually gotten this a few years ago right around the time I had Oliver. I never got around to reading it while trying to figure out how to take care of a newborn so I am determined to get into it this Summer!
This book is probably the one I am most excited for. After the absolute chaos the world was in last year (and so far this year), I can’t wait to dive into this investigation of the so-called “woke” culture.
