Mardi Gras is coming up next week and I can’t wait to celebrate! I love this holiday! The food, the masks, the decorations, the parades, the party. Everything about Mardi Gras is so much fun and I couldn’t wait to put together some activities that were kid-friendly. Over the next few days check back on the blog for fun ways to celebrate Mardi Gras with your little ones!
To kick off our Mardi Gras celebrations, I wanted to start off with couple sensory bin options since our Valentine’s Day Bins got such a positive response! Plus these are great entertainment for the kids while I try to get a few other crafts and recipes organized!
Following the same ideas as the Valentine’s Bins, I grabbed our bin of rice and our craft sand. Since Mardi Gras colors are green, purple, and gold, I used those colors for the sand and just reused the rice. Party City, Amazon, Target, Micheal’s Crafts all have awesome little toys to throw in to add a little more festivity to your bin. I found a fun kit for the kids that came with so much stuff we could use and reuse over and over. I threw in the beads from there and added some Mardi Gras coins too. Depending on your targeted ages, add different scoops and utensils for them to experiment with. Emmie didn’t really care about whether there were scoops or not and just liked playing with the beads. Oliver on the other hand loves all the different scoops and funnels we’ve thrown in over the past few months so I grabbed a few of his favorites for him.
These bins were easy to make and depending on what you choose to throw in, can be pretty cheap to assemble. I’ve linked everything we used below!

Beads are a staple at any Mardi Gras celebration & Emmie was a big fan of wearing them. Find them here.

These coins were festive & fun. Emmie loved stacking them up and Oliver had fun burying them. Find them here.

These masks light up and are so fun! I threw one in for each kid. Plus the feathers were a big hit! Find them here.
